Gaile Gray stated a while back that you should hold on your ectos. And basically i'd agree on that
On topic : Whenever i create PuG's (rarely happens anymore since i almost exclusively play with friends) i don't care what armor a char wears since it doesn't indicate anything if you wear 1.5k 15k or FoW armor . All it MIGHT indicate is your playtime/luck or your taste. Armor in this game (at least the highest AL one) is purely for taste in PvE as the different sets don't really differ that much to make alot of a difference (other might feel differently but thats your opinion).
So in conclusion : Players should be chosen by their character(not the proffession)/skill and not by the armor/equipment or sometimes even level (but thats a difefrent topic) they have.

Your original question was whether ectos would fall in value when new armor - maybe without the ecto requirement - is introduced in Chapter 2:
No one really can answer that one yet.
The only people who know are under non-disclosure agreements not to say.
So it's sort of a paradox. If you know you can't say. If you are free to say, you don't know.

FoW generaly means more experienced players. I cant keep repeating myself beacuse some e-bay etc to get it
I do not disagree that you never take it for granted, but generaly they are. FoW does not gaurntee this however.
I am an experienced player and i also farmed. Farming does not mean thats all you do and therfore miss out on the team play etc. my Guild can vouch for that sometimes you farm because your bored and sometimes you do missions because your bored of farming.

Most of the FOW armor wearers got them through ebay by spending $50-100 dollars. Unfortunately, this trivializes the hard work that real players who earned their fow armor.
Why do I say most FOW armor wearers are ebayers?
I do FOW Forgemaster runs quite often. 40,000 quest exp + mob exp + shard drops is pretty good for 2 hours of game play. The people who do get armor are usually warriors and usually aren't very experienced. They usually don't have the right skills for book holding. Some even openly admit that they haven't been to forgemaster before. It doesn't take much of an imagination to assume that they didn't earn their ectos & shards.

The thing is it has been very easy in the past to make loads of cash in GW. If you solo IDS farmed, farmed the new Tombs when the came out you could sell victos for 100k+ ectos, dreadnaught drift runs, solo UW etc. Thats just a few of the things people have earned cash from not to mention HoD swords and the reset of prices e.g. ectos. People who PvE can easily get the 1.5 mil or whatever required for fow now so whoever ebays there cash is just sad

Not necesarily....
I'm 16 and I could afford the 50 bucks to get FoW armor, but that kinda ruins the whole game.

FoW armor totally devaluated over time, at least for me. Half of the ppl that have one got the money from ebay or scamming and the other half are just ruthless traders and hard core farmers. That armor should symbolise something in this game and the way it looks should not be important (yeah NOT important), but it failed on that field. Ectos and Shards are 2 simple way to get it, it should require something like unlocking system so if some1 wants it he/she should fulfill the following imho:
- must finish the game (including Titan Source) with that char
- must have over 500 hrs in game with that char
- must have over 3 milions xp with that char
- must unlock all skills, runes and weapon mods for that class (if not for all of them)
- must be at least rank 6
- must have requred amount of ectos and shards
- probably a few more conditions that I cant recall right now
So no lucky drops, no ebay, no scamming, no buying 15^50 Chaos from a newbie for 50k and then reselling it for 500k, no 24 hours a day farming griffons etc. etc. Sure a few lucky drops and some time spent in farming can help but hey, it must not be a crucial thing for getting the armor. This way FoW armor would shine in its full glory and when you see some1 with it you will know that he well deserved it and that he put some hard time to get one. I am talking here about FoW armor but of course it is too late for that. I would love to see this or any similar system applied in the 2nd Chapter cause I suppose there will be a next generation of rare "FoW" armors (or whatever a new high level area will be called). The way it is now with that armor equiped you will get respect only from ppl that are not worth to give it to you and as seen in first post, a high blood pressure from mind sick ppl that envy you.
My 2 Cents

And no PvE-enthusiasts. That means people like Racthoh Demini with 10 million xp wouldn't be allowed FoW armor, and all those people who know fissure better than they know random arenas wouldn't be able to get it. Real clever, considering it's a PvE goal.
Having requirements is idiotic... its just armor. No higher stats. Giving it '00ber s7atus symb0l pow3r' is pointless... I got FoW because I have nothing else to do with my cash, and because high style = ftw.
If you want respect, get it the way the game declares. From skill.

Oh, you were serious. Pardon my laughter then. Fissure armor has never ment anything. Experience does not mean anything. If you want respect, play well.

Dont get me wrong here, I am also as you say PvE-enthusiast, have 7 million xp with my war, 3 million xp with my monk but far away from r6. Anyway it can be set to r3 or r4, the point is the way you get FoW armor now is 2 easy, you just need gold. Again just my 2 Cents and from some point of view you are right but then we are getting back to post #1 in this thread.

I don't feel like it is a positive or a negative, really no different to be honest as to how my character is perceived in the game or for joining a party. She does draw a lot more attention now, and the majority (95%) of the comments have been nice and polite which is not necessary but flattering anyway.
I basically decided that after over 1000 hours, a great deal of it farming that I liked my female warrior the best of my characters. I play her in the Arena, play her in PvE, and use her for some farming/running as well. I had 15k gladiators which I liked the stats/energy of, but not the looks nor the fact you could not dye it all and 15k plate which I liked the looks but missed the energy. The FoW Gladiators solved that, since it gave the energy and the vicious look that really fit her well.
What people fail to realize is that it IS a type of status symbol. Not to be viewed by others as one, but to yourself as a measure of accomplishing a goal. I feel like I have completed a part of this character that regardless of what they release in the future I am happy with. I like the look and the stats whether it was free or millions. It has been said plenty of times, but I will say it again, that I don't care if others think it is "nooby", ugly, garish, arrogant, stupid, or great, awesome or cool, long as I like it that really is all that matters.

Don't know if this has been said before but...
FoW Armor is gotten usually by farming for gold/materials. It takes time and hard work.
Ebay requires money. Money requires time and hard work, whether it is from your own pocket or someone elses, it still accumulates time and hard work.
So the transitive property states that since Farming for FoW = Time and Hard Work and Ebay = Time and Hard Work (Ebay = Money, Money = Time and Hard Work)
Farming for FoW = Ebay.

First off when you are saying must have required amount of ectos and shards obviously it is already required cause the crafter asks for them. Saying the person should be at least rank 6 and have all skills unlocked is absolutely ridiculous cause some people like to pvp and others pve and not many people who have fow are gonna be rank 6. Fow armour is about yourself feeling an achievement when getting it not what others think about you. FoW armour is a money sink for PvE players what else are they supposed to do with their money?

Gah, I hate going to the Grotto. Although its a fun place to hang out and you can meet some nice people there, you end up with teh buttheads calling out "DON'T ALL YOU PEOPLE IN DROK'S FEEL ILLEQUIPPED (with a dumber word) NEXT TO ALL OF US IN 15K!"... despite the fact that 15k is completely useless other than looks. Then, you have all the people begging for gold/items to get their 15k. Go to ToA, get a group together, and get into Sorrow's to go kill stuff. If you're an unwanted char, get your guildies/friends together and go kill stuff in there, or elsewhere. You'll get the gold eventually... not that hard.
*wishes people would stop being so immature... about armor at least*

Its always obvious who has ebayed and who hasnt, there was a guy in my guild who was farily new to the game, was still only on his first completed char and one nite mentioned he wanted a FoW crafter run, took about 2min of FoW to realise he ebayed it, he claimed he got all the cash from duo UW farming but his only finished char was a wammo, so wasnt long til he got booted.
He was only about 14 tho, where does a 14 year old get the cash to ebay fissure armour from?
I think its more anets fault for allowing the ebay situation to get so bad, they make areas like the troll cave so easy to solo and keep them farmable for so long that people make bots to farm them, and the chinese farmers move in, you see 40-50 monks at a time running out onto the talus chute, they all have names like "nice car" and "kmn dfnsk", i think anet should just daily ban these accounts, its not hard to spot a legit farmer from a bot or chinese farmer.

Ok maybe I was a little harsh with the r6 thing, but like I said it can be set to r3, thats not 2 hard to get or even remove the rank requirement, I still say 3 milions xp, over 500 hrs in game. That will significantly reduce the number of ebay armors and protect the players who got it in legit way.

That's more of an attitude I see from warriors than from Fissure armored people... most people I know who have fissure aren't like that
